Why students lose marks in English Language
English Language marks are lost in predictable ways: students write too much and say too little in comprehension answers; summaries include opinion and elaboration the mark scheme does not reward; compositions lack a clear structure. Most students have never been shown what the mark scheme actually rewards — they write what they know rather than what scores.
How our tutors help
Our tutors teach English from the mark scheme back. Your child learns exactly how many marks each question type carries, what the examiner is looking for, and how to answer in the style that scores consistently. Every session uses real past papers and model answers.
Frequently asked questions
Is English Language tutoring useful even if my child speaks English well?
Yes. Speaking well and writing to exam standard are very different skills. Many fluent English speakers lose significant marks because they have never been taught how to structure a summary or what "directed writing" actually requires.
Do you cover Cambridge and ZIMSEC English Language?
Yes. The question formats differ between boards and the tutor will teach to the specific board your child is registered for.
How quickly can my child improve in English Language?
Comprehension and directed writing skills improve quickly with targeted practice — usually within 4–6 sessions. Composition quality takes longer to develop but also has the largest mark range, so it is worth investing in.
